Marlis Petersen, voted »Singer of the Year« four times by Opernwelt, won the same accolade from Opus Klassiks 2020. Her last role in Frankfurt was Hanna Glawari (role debut) in a new production of Die lustige Witwe / The Merry Widow in 2018. She recently sang her first Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier) at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, a role she is due to sing in June at the Vienna State Opera. This celebrated soprano appears at leading opera houses around the world, including the Opéra de Paris, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Berlin and Hamburg state operas, the Theater an der Wien, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Los Angeles Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence festivals. She recently added new roles to her repertoire: Strauss’ Salome at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Donizetti's Maria Stuarda at the Theater an der Wien, Marietta in Korngold's Die tote Stadt / The Dead City at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Manon at the Vienna State Opera and Leonore in Beethoven's Fidelio on a European tour with René Jacobs. Berg's Lulu – a role she was born to sing – took her all over the world, most recently to the Met in New York and Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. This former member of the ensembles at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg and Deutsche Oper am Rhein is equally at home with roles including Violetta (La traviata), Elettra (Idomeneo), Massenet's Thaïs, Norina (Don Pasquale) and the four female leads in Hoffmanns Erzählungen / The Tales of Hoffmann as with contemporary music – singing the female leads in the world premieres of Henze's Phaedra, Trojahn's La Grande Magia and Reimann's Medea. She is also much sought-after as a recitalist, appearing regularly in the Wigmore Hall in London, Konzerthaus in Vienna and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg.
