Jane Henschel, who was born in America and is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time singing Auntie in this new production of Peter Grimes, is one of the most renowned mezzo-sopranos of her generation. Recent engagements have included Herodias (Salome) and Kabanicha (Katia Kabanová) at the Vienna State Opera, Fillipjewna (Eugen Onegin) at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and Herodias at the Semperoper in Dresden, Grand Théâtre in Geneva and in concert with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Her broad and extensive repertoire, which includes Klytämnestra (Elektra), Baba the Turk (The Rake’s Progress), Küsterin (Jenůfa), Cassandre (Les Troyens), Fricka, Waltraute, Erda and Ortrud, Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) and the Amme (Die Frau ohne Schatten), has taken Jane Henschel to many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Opéra National in Paris, the Vienna, Munich and Dresden state operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Los Angeles and San Francisco operas, the Nationale Opera Amsterdam and Metropolitan Opera in New York and Salzburg and Glyndebourne festivals. Jane Henschel has appeared in concert with the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia and Oslo philharmonics, the Deutsche Sinfonie Orchester, Dresden Staatskapelle and Orchestre de Radio France. An extensive discography, including Mahler 8 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, documents her long and successful career.
