This bass-baritone, who is much sought after by leading opera companies around the world, is a regular guest at Oper Frankfurt, where his hugely successful roles have included Mandryka in Arabella and the title roles in Herzog Blaubarts Burg/Bluebeard's Castle and Dallapiccola's Il prigioniero. Recent engagements have included Moses in Moses und Aron at the Komische Oper Berlin, Boris (Lady Macbeth von Mzensk) at English National Opera in London, Jochanaan (Salome) in Belfast and Montréal, Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier) and Wotan (Die Walküre) at Opera North in Leeds. Other theatres where Robert Hayward has sung have included the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, Opera North in Leeds, Houston Grand Opera, the New Israeli Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and the Staatsoper in Stuttgart. His large and varied repertoire includes the roles of Dr. Schön (Lulu, available on CD - Chandos), Scarpia (Tosca), Šiškov (The House of the Dead), Jaroslav Prus (The Makropoulos Case), Don Pizarro (Fidelio), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Méphistophélès (La Damnation de Faust), Wotan / Der Wanderer (Wagner's Ring) and the title roles in Macbeth, Falstaff, Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman, Mazeppa and Eugen Onegin.
