David Bösch directed one of his first operas at Oper Frankfurt: Orlando furioso in 2009/10, which was followed by this wonderful production of Königskinder, Der fliegende Holländer / The Flying Dutchman and Il trovatore. After making his debut at the Hamburg State Opera last season with Manon he returned there recently for Die Entführung aus dem Serail and a graphic opera: WEISSE ROSE / WHITE ROSE which he directed with Patrick Bannwart and Falko Herold for ARTE, which was shown at the 58th Golden Prague International Television Festival in 2021 and awarded the 2021 Rolf Mares Hamburg Theater Prize. He returns to the Hamburg State Opera this season for Don Pasquale and directs a new production of Irrelohe at the Opéra de Lyon. After studying at places including the Zurich University of Art, David Bösch took up the post of house director of the Schauspiel in Essen in 2005/06, moving to Bochum as Principal Director in 2010/11 and then the Burgtheater in Vienna as house director in 2013/14. Theatres where he has worked have included the Residenztheater in Munich, the Berlin Ensemble, Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Zürich, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and Theater Basel and opera productions have taken him to places including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp, the Semperoper in Dresden, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Opéra de Lyon, Nationale Opera Amsterdam and Grand Théâtre de Genève.
